Position: Deputy Sheriff
The Arlington County Sheriff's Office is establishing an eligibility list for Deputy Sheriff positions. Candidates must complete the National Testing Network Frontline National exam and the Public Safety Self-Assessment Part 1 for consideration. The Sheriff's Office is recognized nationally for excellence and accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA).

Job Overview
Deputy Sheriffs work across all areas of the Sheriff's Office, including our state-of-the-art direct supervision Detention Facility. Most deputies begin at the detention facility with potential rotation to other assignments based on department needs. Typical shifts are 12-hour fixed schedules, covering days, nights, weekends, and holidays, with deputies working 15 days per month. Deputies receive full salary and benefits during training at the Academy.

Primary Responsibilities:

Supervise daily inmate activities, including security, processing, program activities, food service, and recreation.
Manage inmate behavior, applying appropriate force when necessary.
Supervise inmates in work programs.
Handle public admittance screening at the facility.
Process inmate property and funds.
Additional Duties:

Court Security: Oversee courtroom security, escort inmates, monitor court sessions, and respond to incidents.
Warrant Processing: Serve legal papers, execute criminal warrants, take individuals into custody, and carry out court-ordered evictions.
Transportation: Escort inmates and individuals in custody to and from correctional facilities, hearings, and medical appointments.
All assignments require report writing, incident documentation, and the ability to respond calmly and effectively in potentially dangerous situations.

Salary and Benefits
Annual Salary Range: $63,772.80 - $107,660.80
Incentives: Additional pay for certifications and specialties.
Schedule: 12-hour fixed shifts, covering days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
At least 21 years of age at time of appointment (or within six months of 21st birthday at time of application).
U.S. citizenship.
Good physical condition.
Bondable for handling Commonwealth funds.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Availability for emergency calls, standby duty, overtime, and outside details.
Willingness to work 12-hour shifts on varied schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
