Position Summary:

The Strategic Sourcing Specialist works as part of the strategic sourcing team to achieve goals and initiatives set for Direct and Indirect Cost purchases through the development and execution of sourcing strategies for all items used by the manufacturing plants.

Primary Responsibilities/Tasks:

  • Identify and implement sourcing strategies for raw materials and packaging materials (flexible, rigid, corrugated, labels and folding cartons) in support of full enterprise needs.
  • Collaborate with Product Development, Operations, Sales, Marketing and Regulatory teams to ensure we meet or exceeding specific criteria and objectives for food safety, quality, and handling of our intermediate and finished goods packaged products.
  • Identify and assist in the implementation of inventory optimization strategies for the company.
  • Support all corporate initiatives regarding the implementation of modern technology and systems.
  • Conducts spend analysis of internal business and supply markets to identify sourcing value levers.
  • Develop and implement a purchasing forecast model with vendors on packaging items.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the supply chain for COGS items. Analyze their impact on our COGS and plant operational costs to ensure we are buying at the best possible price.
  • Implement and oversee active cost avoidance and cost reduction strategies.
  • Support of Finance operations for the reconciliation of PO to Invoice activities
  • Assist in ensuring that the SQF system is in place and that we are following all aspects of HACCP plan, SSOPs, and GMPs throughout the year.
  • Report all food safety issues to an immediate supervisor.

Minimum Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to sit or stand at a workstation for extended periods (up to 8 hours per day).
  • Ability to walk through production and warehouse areas, including over slippery surfaces.
  • Ability to lift, carry, or move items up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Visual acuity to read documents, spreadsheets, and computer screens.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for working with computers and documents.
  • Ability to tolerate limited exposure to varying temperatures (cold storage areas and production floor).
  • Ability to travel so production facilities, visit suppliers, distribution centers as needed. (estimated <10%).

Educational and Experience:

  • BA or BS in Business, Supply Chain Management, Procurement.
  • 2-5 years’ experience in purchasing and packaging - Knowledge of food manufacturing critical.
  • Knowledgeable in data analysis and inventory management.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and maintain confidentiality.
  • The ability to proactively manage and prioritize multiple tasks with anticipation and flexibility.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate effectively.
  • Experience and successful application in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with ERP systems and data gathering tools preferred.
